Paul, 55, unfortunately packed up his Bed & Breakfast business four years ago due to his illness. He had a general working business background with sales and retail skills and also educated to a degree level.
He was new to the area and was looking for a career change as he wanted to work in the care sector.
Paul applied to many local care organisations but had received rejection letters from all of them. He did not know where he was going wrong, but thought that the lack of relevant experience probably did not help. Paul attended the CV module at TNG to get support in adapting his CV to make it specific to the sector and He also attended a letter writing workshop. He then sent his updated CV and letters to a number of care agencies, including those which he had previously received rejections from.
In response to the letters, Paul received several replies and application forms. He worked through online application forms with the guidance from his Personal Job Adviser. The first online form he had completed and submitted was for Care UK, where he was subsequently offered an interview. After working with his Personal Job Adviser on his interview techniques, including plenty of practise runs, Paul was ready for his interview. Much to his delight he was offered a job shortly after the interview. He attended a week’s training and following his CRB clearance, commenced his employment as a Domiciliary Carer - his dream job!
"The support and all round package I received turned my position around and was just what I needed to get the job I wanted."
