Sarah, 36, had gained six years of experience in customer service working as a kitchen assistant. She came to TNG having been unemployed for two years, severely lacking confidence, self-worth and poor communication skills.
All of her front teeth were missing due to the physical abuse she suffered from a past relationship.
Sarah found it very difficult to communicate with any member of the team also causing poor attendance. She would physically shake and would continually have her hand against her mouth when speaking. Through one to ones with her Personal Job Adviser (Jason Vander), Sarah gradually began to come out of her shell.
She opened up about the physical abuse she suffered and explained that she held her hand up to cover her mouth whilst talking to others due to feeling as though everyone was looking at her missing teeth.
At the time her confidence was at a point of no return, so her Personal Job Adviser made an appointment at the dentist for Sarah, to address this problem. Sarah then had the dental work completed and came into TNG’s office beaming with confidence, her overall presentation dramatically improved and she felt enough self believe to attend various job searching workshops.
Sarah applied for a job as a Catering Assistant at a cafe in a large supermarket. After completing mock interviews prior to the real thing, she went into her interview confident and prepared. This came across in the interview and she was immediately offered the position. Sarah really enjoys her job and says she can’t remember the person she was when she first came to TNG.
"TNG has made a huge difference in my life. I now feel I am a confident and a competent individual. If I put my mind to it, I am able to achieve anything I want to."
