What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are work based training programmes designed for people aged 16 and over.
You can get the right skills and training you need to do a particular job well and will be able to learn on the job, build up knowledge and skills, gain qualifications and earn money at the same time.
They’re a great way to get a foot on the career ladder and strike the perfect balance between training, study and work.

As an apprentice you will learn on the job, build up knowledge and skills in the workplace, gain qualifications and earn money at the same time.
To succeed, you need to be focused on the career you want and be willing to work hard at all times. You will need to show your employer that you are committed to your job and keen to learn and progress.
Your employer will be investing time into supporting you throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are open to anyone aged 16 or over in employment, earning a minimum of £95 per week. You must also live in England and not be taking part in full-time education.
Improve your career prospects
Apprenticeships are assessed on the job, which means you get to improve your career and promotion prospects in the industry you’ve chosen while gaining recognised qualifications. The qualification you’ll achieve is recognised nationally by employers, colleges and universities. Apprenticeships can be a stepping stone to further and higher education, and are a learning curve for the rest of your career.
Brush up your skills
As well as being trained with the latest technology and working practices in your chosen sector, you’ll gain a range of essential skills such as Communication and Application of Number, which will be useful in whatever you do.
Earn while you learn
You get to learn how to do a job well – what’s more, you get paid for it. You’ll get a valuable experience in the world of work and you’ll get to learn at a pace that suits you.
Apprenticeship training is a mixture of the following basic elements:
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
- Key/Functional Skills (Communication and Application of Number)
- A Technical Certificate
Most Apprenticeships are completed in less than 15 months and most of your training will be provided by your employer or TNG in the workplace. We will also advise you on what to expect from your employer in terms of your rights and responsibilities for things such as holiday, sickness etc.
Your employer will support you throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship and a structured programme will be followed to ensure you are making progress. You will also spend time off the job with TNG studying for vocational qualifications that will be useful in your job.
TNG staff will be on hand to offer you advice, guidance and tips at all times. You will also receive regular one-to-one reviews to ensure you are happy and receiving the support you need from both TNG and your employer.
Our highly qualified team of assessors will work with you every step of the way and will provide a range of resources to assist you in achieving your Apprenticeship. With our help and support, you’ll be able to start your Apprenticeship at a time that suits both you and your employer, and you can be confident that we will focus on your individual needs at all times.
